A leitura mais tradicional de Natal é a de Charles Dickens e os seus Christmas Tales. O inglês Dickens nasceu em 1812 e é considerado o escritor responsável pelo regaste do espírito natalino tradicional britânico. Deixo com vocês um trecho do texto “Festividades de Natal”, publicado na obra A Christmas Carol and Other Christmas Writings, da Penguin Classics. Nas palavras de Dickens, o natal é uma oportunidade única para a família se reencontrar, reunindo todos, pobres e ricos, as crianças ansiosas pelas festas muito antes do anúncio da neve de dezembro.
